poem of my choice

Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Evening
by Robert Frost
Whose woods these are I think I know. His house is in the village, though; He will not see me stopping here To watch his woods fill up with snow.
My little horse must think it's queer To stop without a farmhouse near Between the woods and frozen lake The darkest evening of the year.
He gives his harness bells a shake To ask if there's some mistake. The only other sound's the sweep Of easy wind and downy flake.
The woods are lovely, dark, and deep, But I have promises to keep, And miles to go before I sleep, And miles to go before I sleep.

The whole poem is really beautiful but I was really fascinated by the last four lines of the poem. Although the words in the last four lines are very simple, it has got very deeper meaning. The poet is travelling through the woods which he finds very lovely but he cannot stay there and savor the beauty of it all because he is bound by his duties . I do not know the poet means it from the last lines or not but what I really understood from the lines is that we find many temptations in our life which try to distract us from our aim; and in this poem the beautiful woods is the temptation. But no matter what, we should not be distracted by those temptations and must fulfill our promise or do what we are supposed to do before we sleep, i.e. before we die.
